Ronaldo Wiltshire - My Brothers Schizophrenia, Stuttering, and healing through Pottery

Growing up frequently moving between London and Barbados, Ronaldo's childhood was beautiful yet hectic. Navigating through ever-changing school systems and curriculums was not always easy as teachers failed to assess him appropriately; they put him in a slow learners' Group, Although he actually had already been taught the curriculum back in Barbados  so in fact he was repeating the same work.

"My brother had schizophrenia," he admits, the weight of those words hanging heavy in the air. Fighting his own battles, being bullied for a stutter, Which developed around  the age of 7 he still sees the positive aspect of this challenging time of his life as appreciating the fact that due to the many different school environments he has experienced, he learned the skills of navigating through various social environments, connecting with people from all walks of life. Nonetheless, "Kids can be cruel," he reflects.

University posed its own challenges. Ronaldo's joint issues made attending classes an uphill battle. "Had to take my brother to the hospital," he recounts, "..and my joint pains were unbearable." Despite his efforts, his professors showed little understanding, refusing to budge on deadlines. "They just didn't believe me," he sighs.

Amidst the chaos, pottery emerged as Ronaldo's sanctuary. "It became my escape," he reveals. Working with clay became his refuge, offering solace from both physical and emotional anguish.

Today, Ronaldo's passion for pottery has blossomed into a thriving profession. He is the proud owner of a bustling studio, "Motions of Clay," located in North West London. At his studio, Ronaldo not only crafts exquisite pottery but also shares his expertise with eager learners. Teaching has become his calling, a way to pay forward the healing he found through clay. "I want to inspire others to discover the joy of pottery."
